Best Public Golf Courses in San Antonio, Texas

Sunday May 25, 2014

10th at Brackenridge Park Golf Club, San Antonio, Texas

If you're planning a golf getaway to San Antonio, you'll need to know where to play. I have put together a list of the best public golf courses in San Antonio, Texas.

They say that "everything is bigger in Texas," and San Antonio is no exception. Now the seventh-largest city in the United States (hard to believe, but true), San Antonio is home to a variety of very fine golf  courses, including traditional layouts (check out the lovely Brackenridge Park course, an original A.W. Tillinghast design), parkland courses, and beautiful golf resorts. Mild temperatures and more than 300 days of sunshine annually mean you can tee it up year-round in San Antonio - rain is but a "sometime thing" and rarely seems to last for more than a few hours.

Play the Reynolds Plantation: Five Amazing Golf Courses in Georgia, and Visit Charlie King to Tune Up Your Game

Sunday May 11, 2014

Photo of Hole 9 at Great Waters golf course Reynolds Plantation, GA

It's time once again to head for Georgia and the Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro. Reynolds is one of Georgia's top golf resorts and, with five championship golf courses, and the inimitable Charlie King, golf instructor extraordinaire, right there onsite, it's no wonder that it's also one of Georgia's most popular golf resorts. As close as it is to where I live, it's also no wonder that I've visited the resort more than once, seven times in fact, and that I have photographed all five public access courses extensively. Best of all, the resort is open for play the year round.

The five layouts at Reynolds were designed and built by some of the greatest names in the business: Rees Jones, Bob Cupp (2), Jack Nicklaus and, of course, Tom Fazio. The Reynolds Plantation is also home to Charlie King, arguably one of finest teachers of the game around - I know, because in less than an hour, Charlie cured an error in my swing that I'd been making my whole life. You can learn more about your game, and how to improve it, in less than  an hour with Charlie than by taking a whole course of lessons at a lessor school. If your game is in need a tune up, I highly recommend Charlie King - his approach to teaching golf is unique, and it works. If you'd like to know more, please read my review of the Reynolds Plantation, and view my photo galleries.

The 2014 PLAYERS Championship Week

Wednesday May 7, 2014

Tiger Woods at the 18th Green TPC Sawgrass

Play begins today at the THE PLAYERS Championship. If you've never visited Sawgrass, you've missed quite a spectacle. The Pete Dye TPC Sawgrass stands alone as the best in golf course design. Everyone knows about the fantastic 17th Island Green at the Sawgrass TPC Stadium Course but few have seen the rest of the course, except maybe when watching the TPC Tournament on TV. The course as a whole, though, is incredible. Here's your chance to judge for yourself. TPC Sawgrass Photo Gallery.

Play the Grand Dunes Resort Course in Myrtle Beach

Monday May 5, 2014

Grande Dunes Resort Course, Myrtle Beach

With seven of its 18 holes playing along the Intracoastal Waterway, and with more than 34 acres of freshwater lakes, water in all its forms is a major presence at the Grande Dunes Resort Course in Myrtle Beach, SC. The course also features numerous elevation changes, wide Bermuda fairways, large bent grass greens, and stunning views, and that's all very nice and inviting, but then you learn that the course also plays more than 7,600 yards from the back tees and you know that you're in for quite a ride. If you're planning a visit to Myrtle Beach to play golf, you should put Grand Dunes on your list of places to play; you'll enjoy it. Please read my full review of the Grand Dunes Resort Course.

Las Vegas - One of the Most Popular Golf Destinations in the World

Saturday May 3, 2014

The 15th at Aliente, Las VegasThere's absolutely no doubt that Las Vegas is one of the most popular golf destinations in the world. No matter the season, the warm/hot weather makes golf an inviting option. With an average mean temperature of 80 degrees, and 320 days of sunshine, it's a safe bet (no pun intended) that your golf trip to Las Vegas will be a winner, because many of the golf courses in and around Las Vegas are ranked among the best of the best, and there are plenty of them to choose from: parkland, mountain or valley courses. Some are a little expensive to play but, as one wise sagebrush once said: you get what you pay for. For ideas on where to play in Las Vegas, and where to stay, please check out my extensive listings of Las Vegas golf courses, and my list of Top 10 Golf Courses in Las Vegas.
