The Audubon Golf Trail in Louisiana was founded in 2001 as an answer to Alabama’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Back then is was a collection of just six golf courses, each one unique and with an enthusiasm to bring Louisiana to the forefront of the golf travel industry. Today, the Audubon Golf Trail lists 12 member courses and it seems the number will continue to grow. Read the article>>>

Debunking The Myth of US Links Style Golf Courses

Saturday July 19, 2008
Time and again I hear of American courses described as “Links-style” golf courses. I have to tell you, I’ve yet to see a true links course on the North American Continent. Now that’s not to say they don’t exist. I’m sure there are many located in the northern coastal areas of the U.S.A. From my own experience of the so-called Links-style golf courses in America, especially those in the southern regions, the term is used to describe an essentially flat, boring and featureless layout. Ok, I can hear you all screaming, but I have to tell you, I think it’s true. Let me explain: Please read the article. Yes, I know the idea is somewhat controversial, but it's not my intention to insult. I simply present it with the best of intentions, so please let me have your feedback.

Golf is the Sport of Choice for 17.1 Million Travelers is 2007

Freeport Grand Bahama Island

According to a report by the Travel Industry Association, golf remained the vacation sport of choice for 17.3 million U.S. travelers last year, and many are selecting Caribbean greens over domestic courses for their ideal year-round climate and lush, tropical landscapes. And that brings me to this:

Grand Bahama Island remains a hidden treasure in the Caribbean, providing two distinct golf opportunities: The Reef Club and the Lucayan Country Club at Our Lucaya Resort in Freeport. Both courses have hosted the PGA's Bahamas National Open, the Senior PGA's Slam and 12 other national championships. These are great courses at a great destination.

The Reef Club

  • Created in 2000 by Robert Trent Jones, Jr.
  • 18-hole, par-72 links-style course
  • 13 holes bordered by picturesque lakes
  • Wide fairways and large, level greens.

Lucayan Country Club

  • A classic designed by Dick Wilson in 1962
  • 18-hole, par-72, 6,824-yard course
  • Famous for its shaded, tree-lined fairways, small elevated greens and Wilson-trademark bunkers
