Springtime Golf Getaways in Naples and Southwest Florida

Tuesday April 15, 2014

Venetian Golf and River Club, VeniceIt's springtime in Florida and the weather is at its balmiest way down there in Naples, Sarasota, Bradenton, and beyond. The Gulf Coast of Southwest Florida is one of my favorite golfing destinations. The golf courses in the greater Naples area are all open for play, and even during the high season only rarely are do any of them become crowded, and that means tee times from first light to mid-afternoon are usually available. Even better: from May through the end of October, many of the area's private golf clubs open their courses for public play, a rare treat for visiting golfers. If you're planning an early golf outing, Naples and Fort Myers should be top of your list of possible destinations. I have listed just about all the area golf courses and resort, complete with reviews and photographs, to help you with your planning. Please check out my listings of Golf Courses in Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota and Port Charlotte. If you've never wintered in southwest Florida, you just don't know what you're missing.

Put the J.W. Marriott Camelback Resort in Scottsdale on your Bucket List

Sunday April 13, 2014

Golf Course at Camelback Resort and Spa

The J.W. Marriott Camelback Resort and Spa, Scottsdale, AZ, should be one of the golf destinations on your Bucket List. I first visited Camelback in 1984. It was an amazing resort even then. Today, it's even more so. In addition to the grand resort, and I do mean "grand," the two 18-hole championship golf courses offer us a vacation to remember. Geeze, I love that desert golf and, if I could persuade you to give Camelback at try, I would certainly do so; you gotta give it some thought, ok? In the meantime, you'll find all the information about the resort and its golf courses by reading my full review of the Camelback Resort and Spa.

Master's Week 2014 Begins Today

Monday April 7, 2014

The 12th at Augusta National

Very few of us will get to visit Augusta National Golf Club this week. It's been a couple of years or so since I was last there, but the memories linger on. This year I'll be watching TV, bummer. If you've never made it to Augusta for the Masters, I feel for you. Here's a quick look at a what you might expect to see during a day at the Master's; some of the images I took myself, some I didn't. I hope you enjoy my photo gallery of A Day at the Masters.

Play the Waccamaw Golf Trail in SC

Friday April 4, 2014

Photograph of the Waccamaw Golf TrailThe weather is improving and South Carolina is looking very good once more. There are literally hundreds of great golf courses in South Carolina, spread far and wide from one end of  the state to the other, and that poses two questions: Where to go? Which courses to play? The answer might just be the  Waccamaw Golf Trail in Georgetown County, SC. There are 11 amazing Golf Courses on the "Trail." Set among those special, back-to-nature spots that team with wildlife, the Trail offers a rare opportunity to spend and hour or two playing the game we love far away from the trials and tribulations of everyday living; it is, in my opinion, the ultimate golf getaway. Would you like to know more? Please read my reviews and view my photo galleries of the Waccamaw Golf Trail.

Cocoa Beach, Florida - The Most Appealing Golf Destination South of the Georgia State Line?

Wednesday April 2, 2014

Baytree National Golf LinksCocoa Beach on Florida's Space Coast, just to the northeast of Orlando and all of its great attractions (I love Grand Lakes) is nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Banana River Lagoon on Florida's Central East Coast. Cocoa Beach is, of course, the home of America's space program, and not only is it one of the most appealing golf destinations south of the Georgia state line, it's also the home of Baytree National Golf Links - see photo at right.  No,  it's probably not the first place that came to mind when you decided to plan that next important golf outing, but maybe it should have been; it does have a lot to offer and, if you're looking for something really different, Cocoa Beach might just fit the bill. The golf courses in and around Cocoa Beach, range from semi-private clubs to city-owned public access facilities, and from the not-so-grand to the top-of-line. Would you like to know more?
