Scotland in the Fall

Monday July 30, 2007

There’s no place quite like it. The land of Braveheart is one of swirling mists, purple heather, windswept moors and wetlands. In the fall, when the air is crisp and cold, and the winds blow in off the western Atlantic, the golf in Scotland is beyond parallel. It’s the time when the golf courses are at their best: the trees turn all the colors of the rainbow, the turf is a rich, deep green and the heather that seems to prevail almost everywhere displays its gorgeous colors all across the hills and valleys that surround them.

The fall days in Scotland are long (it’s light enough to play until almost 10pm), which means tee times are the more available at the great and famous courses: St. Andrews, Turnberry, Carnoustie, Royal Troon, Prestwick and Gleneagles. Maybe it’s time to think about that one golf trip of a lifetime.
