As it is on most of the Out Islands, the fishing is spectacular. On the east side of the island chain lies the 6,000-foot drop off of the Exuma Sound. Big fish inhabit the waters there. Giant marlin, sailfish and wahoo have been caught off the Sound in record numbers. On the reefs, the water is clear and shallow and provides anglers with a happy hunting ground snapper, record-breaking grouper and even lobster.
For the bonefisherman, there are more wadable flats in the Exumas than anywhere else in the Out Islands, and there are no crowds to bother you. The bonefish average around four or five pounds, but 10-pounders are not uncommon and you might get lucky and hook something even bigger. Bonefishing guides, too, are plentiful in the Exumas. The Peace and Plenty Bonefishing Lodge has several on staff, and, if you simply ask around there are plenty of locals who know the area and are willing to serve as guides.
