The Freeport Seafood Restaurant - Bermuda

By Blair Howard, About.com

The Freeport Seafood Restaurant, Royal Naval Dockyard, Sandy’s Parish, Bermuda, 441-234-1692. This great little seafood restaurant has been one of my favorites ever since I began writing about Bermuda, and that’s some 16 years ago now.

If you visit the Royal Naval Dockyard, you’d be remiss if you didn’t do dinner at the Freeport. They serve “only the best of locally caught seafood.” No fish & chips here, and no flare for the dramatic, just good, plain-old sea food cooked just the way you like it and served quickly, hot and without fuss.

I can recommend their signature fish platter, or maybe you’d like to try the broiled Bermuda rockfish – one of my favorites. For lunch, you’ll find they serve all the regular goodies, including burgers, salads, pizzas, and steak on the grill. Best of all, at least on the lunch menu, is the fish sandwich.

The dinner menu includes some old favorites, including steaks, chicken and pork. But it’s the seafood menu that the Freeport is famous for. The fish selection changes with the seasons and might include anything from tuna to wahoo. They even serve lobster, but it runs a bit pricy for me, and I never was a big fan of the spiny critter anyway. An added bonus is that the restaurant has now joined the cyber world and is, in fact, an internet café with computers customers can use. Believe it or not, though, they don’t have a website. Open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.

Here are a few more of my favorite restaurants in Bermuda:
