Built in 1962, the Lucayan Course is a Dick Wilson creation well known for its tight fairways and sharply angled doglegs, all of which places a real emphasis on the player’s shot-making abilities. The course features heavy foliage, lush fairways, and fast greens guarded by cavernous bunkers. Dick Wilson is well known for his work at Bay Hill, in Orlando, Florida and, of course, his signature creation, the Blue Monster at Doral in Miami. It’s no surprise, then, that the Lucayan Course doesn’t disappoint.

The Lucayan is an Audubon-affiliated member of the USGA and The Metropolitan New York Golf Association. You not only test yourself against the natural wonders of Grand Bahama Island, but also the devious twists and turns of Dick Wilson's more than active imagination. Wilson has made the Lucayan a test of precision rather than distance. The course is a natural wonderland where, so it seems, a limitless variety of wild birds inhabit the dogleg fairways and thick stands of tropical foliage.

This is the oldest golf course in Bahamas and is covered in trees, traps, and water hazards. This course is best suited for experienced players. A test of precision rather than distance, the doglegs, elevated greens and thick strands of tropical foliage, make the Lucayan the most challenging golf course on Grand Bahama Island. Its tall trees give shade from the sun and a sense of privacy from other players on the course. With wide target areas off the tee and well protected greens, the Lucayan course is a great place to enjoy the game.

Golf in Freeport is a sometime thing. Rarely is the Lucayan packed to capacity, so there's no tight schedule and no need to rush your round: you can take it easy. You can view the course here in the Lucayan Golf Course Photo Gallery.

A few days of relaxation at the Westin and Sheraton Beach and Golf Resort, with a couple of rounds of golf thrown in, and you’ll have a Golf in the Bahamas vacation to remember.
