Tucked away in the center of Hope Plantation, just outside of the Kiawah gate, lies the Oak Point Golf Course at Kiawah Island Resort. This Clyde Johnston jewel, most frequently called a Scottish-American style course, is a par 72 layout. It is challenging to the novice golfer and the experienced professional while providing a fair test. Bordering the historic Haulover Creek and the Kiawah River, Oak Point was built on the grounds of an old indigo and cotton plantation. Finishing along the panoramic Kiawah River, golfers will be delighted at another example of quality golf that Kiawah Island has to offer. Last summer, its new clubhouse opened adjacent to the 18th green overlooking the Haulover Creek.
The 18-hole Oak Point course at the Kiawah Island Resort plays 6,759 yards of golf from the tips for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.8 and it has a slope rating of 140 on Bermuda grass. Designed by Clyde B. Johnston, the Oak Point golf course opened for play in 1989.

The Verdict: Over the past decade, or so, I’ve visited some incredible luxury family and golf resorts. Very few rise to the standards of Kiawah Island. The golf is, of course, its most obvious attraction, and the five courses are almost beyond compare. Beyond the golf.
How to get There:
