The good folks at Northampton Golf Club are kinda proud that the "KING" himself, Arnold Palmer, designed their golf course, and rightfully so. I have nothing but good to say about it. They also promise to treat you like "ROYALTY!" It’s a nice thought and, for the most-part, they do. Even better, Golf Week magazine says the North Hampton Golf Club course in, Fernandina Beach, is the 7th Best Course you can Play in Florida.”

Designed like a European links style course, this par 72 championship layout meanders around 10 spring fed lakes lined with coquina boulders with elevation changes spanning more than 40 feet. The wild grasses and rolling hills are reminiscent of the courses on the west coast of Scotland. The course is, without doubt, a tough one, especially when the wind blows (and it can top 30 miles an hour). Typical of Arnold Palmer, the TifEagle greens are massive, hard to read and fast. The fairways are tight, the approaches often blind, and danger lurks off every tee.Five sets of tees do provide a number of options and can make the course enjoyable to one and all. This Arnold Palmer Signature course offers a fun, if tough, day out.

The 18-hole North Hampton course plays 7,171 yards of golf from the back tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 74.7 and it has a slope rating of 143 on Bermuda grass. Designed by Arnold Palmer, the North Hampton golf course opened in 2001.

Where to Stay:

I suppose any of the hotels listed in my Palm Coast guide would work well, but I suggest you give the Holiday Inn St. Augustine Beach a try. I’ve stayed there a number of time and I loved it. It’s reasonable and close to the golf course: Compare Prices for nights at Holiday Inn St. Augustine Beach

How to get There:

The course on Amelia island in Fernandina Beach, not too far from the golf courses at Amelia Island Plantation.

The closest airport… well, depending upon your itinerary, there’s a couple of them: Jacksonville or Daytona. Both are served by a number of U.S. airlines, including Delta, U.S. Air, United, etc.

Look for the best airline and car rental deals with these two aggregators, which provide travelers with an up-to-date search tool to compare prices on airfares and car rentals of all ratings:
