Walkabout Golf and Country Club is a stunning collaboration between Australian LPGA Tour player Jan Stephenson and the inimitable Perry Dye. Jan won the LPGA Championship in 1982 and the U.S. Women's Open in 1983; she was also the pioneer for putting style and glamour onto the LPGA tour. As far as Walkabout is concerned, the course has her Aussie stamp all over it: lush, verdant green, gently sloping fairways bounded by glassy-surfaced lakes and Florida’s indigenous flora and fauna. The Tifdwarf greens are sometimes wildly undulating, but always quick as lightning, and well guarded by strategically placed bunkers and collection areas. Most unusual is the addition of a 19th hole, a par-3 with a green shaped like… you guessed it, the Australian continent. It’s a tough course, but it a fun course. Walkabout Golf and Country Club truly is worth the drive from Orlando. You won’t be disappointed.

Course Specifications:

Walkabout Golf and Country Club Course was designed and built by LPGA star, Jan Stephenson in collaboration with Perry Dye. The 18-hole, par 72 course plays 7,115 yards off the Champion tees with a course rating of 74.3 and a slope of 143. With five sets of tees to make play enjoyable to players of all levels of skill, however, low scores are achievable, especially from the much shorter White tees where the course plays just 5,587 yards with a rating of 66.9, though still maintaining its par of 72.

Green Fees:

  • To $25 to $45 depending upon the time of day.

Where to Stay:

I suggest you try the Holiday Inn Coco Beach Oceanside. Compare Prices. It’s conveniently close to the course and the amenities they offer mean you’ll have everything close at hand to ensure an enjoyable outing.
