The World Golf Championships have, since 1999, brought together the best golfers in the world in a series of championships sanctioned by the International Federation of PGA Tours. In 2007, the World Golf Championships – CA Championship originally moved from one course to another each year. In 2007, however, it found a permanent home at the famous Blue Monster course at Doral Golf Resort & Spa.
The Blue Monster Course, one of five championship layouts at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa, has played host to PGA Tour events for more than 40 years. Originally designed by Dick Wilson, the Blue Monster provides a challenging test for the best players in the world. At 7,266 yards from the championship tees, and with a course rating of 74.5 and a slope of 130, the Monster is an intimidating prospect. Once you get out on the course, however, you soon realize that the Blue Monster is a lush, quiet world where little is heard on a hot summer day other than the soft sounds of nature: the buzzing of insects and twittering of the birds.
The fairways on the Blue Monster are long and tight, the greens fast and undulating, and deep Bermuda rough lies in wait for any errant shot. The blue Monster also features a unique assortment of water hazards and the 18th hole, with its vast lake and signature fountain, was ranked by GOLF Magazine as one of the Top 100 Holes in the World.
