Marco Island Golf Club, “an island within an island” is where you can kick off your shoes and explore paradise - at least Marco Island Marriott's version of it, because once your bare feet touch the sand, all the worries, trials and tribulations of big city life will be washed away with the gentle coming and going of the tides. It’s also the ideal spot for a golf vacation. Marco Island Golf opportunities include The Rookery Golf Club, which owned and operated by the Marco Island Golf Club and is, without doubt, one of the finest Golf Clubs in the Naples area.
The Marco Island Marriott Golf Club and Spa is nestled on three miles of pristine beaches, the perfect back-drop for doing everything or nothing at all. If you're a golfer, well, you won't be disappointed. In fact the resort is definitely in tune with all of your needs and desires, whatever they may be. That, along with all of the amenities you have come to expect at a major resort, makes it a great choice for a golfing getaway. If you’re traveling with your family, all of the relevant need that go along with it are taken care of too.
Where to Play Golf
The Rookery at Marco Island features an 18-hole championship course recently re-designed by acclaimed golf course designer Robert Cupp, Jr. The Rookery is an exceptional semi-private layout features generous fairways, oversized and receptive greens, immaculate turf and the option of playing from 5 tee locations. The hazards include all the usual guardians of the green, lateral water of every shape and form and even an alligator or two lying around just to make the play interesting. In short, the Rookery is not a killer course. It offers even beginners the chance to make a decent score, and yet is challenging enough to satisfy even the scratch golfer.
The Rookery's 14-acre state-of-the-art practice facility features the world-famous Faldo Golf School by Marriott, Ez-go Golf Carts equipped with Prolink GPS yardage and upscale rental equipment. Hey, they don't come any better than this, not even out west.
Where to Eat
With several restaurants and lounges to choose from, you don’t need to leave the resort and you will never go hungry. Kurrents is the resort’s answer to your fine dining expectations, and they don’t let you down. The cuisine features seafood, steaks and an interesting variety of unique dishes you’re not likely to find elsewhere. Quinn’s on the Beach offers lighter fare that’s complemented by breathtaking Gulf views, stunning sunsets and live entertainment. Tropiks is your “one-stop-shop” for casual dining the whole family can enjoy from 7 in the morning until 10pm.

Paradise Found
When I was at the Marco Island Marriott Golf Club & Spa in early 2007, the Resort was just completing the final details of a $187 million renovation. It really has turned out well. The Resort has been completely redesigned and has introduced a variety of upscale retail outlets including a ladies' boutique, men's clothier shop, surf-to-sand shop for all beach and outdoor necessities and a gourmet-to-go cafe. In addition to the retail areas, Quinn's pool has been completely re-designed and transformed into a free-form fantasy pool boasting two Jacuzzis, and it has also been relocated closer to the beach so guests can enjoy the stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico, especially the sunsets - colorful, spectacular and romantic. And, as if was not enough, three new restaurants have been added: a new Italian Trattoria, 400 Pazzi's and the Rookery Steakhouse (at the Rookery Golf Club).
How to get There:
The closest major airport serving Naples and Marco Island is the Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) located about 26 miles north of Naples in Fort Myers, Florida. Look for the best airline and car rental deals with these two aggregators, which provide travelers with an up-to-date search tool to compare prices on airfares and car rentals of all ratings.
Only on Florida’s Southwest Gulf Coast will you find such a diversity of golf courses and resorts to choose from. Marco Island Marriott is one I can personally recommend.
