The nature trails are, my opinion, what Callaway Gardens is really all about. They say: “It's almost impossible to appreciate Mother Nature until you've surrounded yourself with her marvelous beauty,” and I can’t think of a better way to do that than to spend a few days wandering the seemingly endless miles of trails that meander throughout the gardens. They provide the ultimate “back-to-nature” experience. The vast lakelands, endless woodlands and acres of beautiful gardens provide a natural, protected habitat for the countless species of plants, wildlife and birds that call Callaway Gardens their home.
If you love to hike, to get away from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day city life, an hour or two spent wandering these mostly woodland trails will provide the ultimate in relaxation. On a warm summer day, when the air still and heavy, the quiet solitude of the woodland glades is disturbed only by the dull buzzing of the insects among the flowers and the birds singing in the trees. It really is idyllic.
Most trails in The Gardens range from one-half mile to one and one-half miles and provide easy to moderate walking. Each trail has its own characteristics and once you've tried them all, you'll find it's hard to choose a favorite.
