Sanctuary Cap Cana is the Dominican Republic’s newest luxury resort. Having first opened its doors in January of 2008, it now seems poised to become the Republic’s premier destination. With the first of three Jack Nicklaus signature courses already open for play, and having already hosted the PGA Champions Tour in April 2008, Cap Cana is also destined to become a major golf destination - the highly acclaimed Punta Espada Golf Course opened for play in April 2007 and is already ranked among the top 100 courses outside the U.S. by Golf Digest. Las Iguanas Golf Course, Jack Nicklaus’s second course is to open in July 2009. The addition of a luxurious spa, set for a late winter 2009 launch, will complete the Sanctuary Cap Cana’s debut as a world-class facility.

Sanctuary Cap Cana, set high on a bluff overlooking the Caribbean on the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic, is an amazing facility. The architecture of Sanctuary Cap Cana – visually more Spanish colonial village than modern grand resort – is unique among its peers: a combination of old-word Caribbean culture and state-of-the-art luxury. Replicas of a tower, Spanish colonial church and even a fortress, house the resort’s public spaces and private guest suites; all connected to one another by bougainvillea-lined pathways.

Sanctuary Cap Cana is the flagship property of Altabella Hotels, the hospitality division of a Spanish investment group with major holdings in the Dominican Republic. It features 176 luxurious suites, eight restaurants, eight bars and lounges, an intimate casino, meeting space for up to 500 guests, and a private, half-mile stretch of sugar-white sand fronting the Caribbean Sea. I’ve said many times in the past that no grand resort is complete without a world-class spa; Sanctuary Cap Cana’s spa will be no exception. The addition of a 33,000 square feet luxury facility with state-of-the-art fitness facilities is set for late winter 2009.
All guest suites – 176 in all - feature private balconies and terraces overlooking the sea, and 25 offer direct access onto the beach; two dual-level, Island Suites are surrounded by the Caribbean Sea on their own private island. Spanning 5,500 square feet, each Island Suite features two bedrooms, two separate living rooms and dining rooms, private terraces, two private pools, a Jacuzzi and personal gym.
