Top Golf Resorts in Jamaica – Montego Bay
Top Golf Resorts in Montego Bay, Jamaica

By Blair Howard, About.com

Golf courses the world over are often set amid the most spectacular scenery imaginable. From the desert to the mountain tops, from tropical rain forests to the Caribbean Islands, the scenery, atmosphere and ambiance is very special, and nowhere more so than the top golf resorts in Jamaica. The aesthetics of any given location is always a major consideration when serious golfers set about planning a golf vacation.

Jamaica is one of those places where the scenery is beyond compare and the golf courses are, well, they are spectacular too. Jamaica is home to some of the top golf resorts and courses in the Caribbean. For more years than I can count, the Caribbean has been my favorite destination: the balmy nights, the emerald ocean waters, the lilting sounds of distant steel drums and the ever-pervasive tropical atmosphere is not only relaxing, but inspiring too. Add a half-dozen championship golf courses and you have a golf destination that’s just a little this side of heaven, one that will draw you back time after time.

Jamaica has little else to offer than “the all-inclusive vacation,” its spectacular scenery, its resorts, beaches and, in my opinion, the finest coffee on the planet; and I do say that with tongue-in-cheek. These days, where there’s a resort there’s usually a golf course, and often more than one; Jamaica has more than its fair share of both resorts and golf courses. The “golf resort” is something of a hybrid among its peers, a resort that offers virtually everything you need under one roof: golf, of course, and world-class lodging, a spa, fine restaurants, the best beaches and a ton of activities to enjoy between and after rounds of golf. Nowhere in Jamaica is more blessed with these golf-related, mini-worlds than Montego Bay. Here are just a few for you to consider:

  • The Wyndham Rose Hall Resort & Spa is a newly updated golf resort that focuses not just on the golfers but on their families as well. Three great golf courses, a water park, a whole range of special activities from water skiing to deep-sea fishing, tennis courts and a world-class spa are just a few of the amenities you’ll enjoy.

  • SuperClubs Golf has long been a favorite among Caribbean golf resorts, and perhaps more so now that new additions and attractions have been added to the original layout. Not one, but four championship golf courses will be available to you. Incredible ocean views an abundance of native trees, plants and indigenous wildlife give the courses an especially alluring appeal.
  • The Tryall Club’s 18-hole, par-72 championship course was designed by Ralph Plummer and has played host to such prestigious international events as the Johnnie Walker World Championship, last won here by Fred Couples in 1995. Located on the island's north coast just a few miles west of Montego Bay airport, The Tryall Club, a private community, welcomes visitors, many of them again and again. The Club is a world of coconut groves, wooded areas and incredible ocean scenery.

And, of course, there are a great many more golf resorts spread all along Jamaica’s North Shore from Negril to Port Antonio. Jamaica is a great golf destination, and one I can heartily recommend.

How to get There:
