No Caribbean beach resort would be complete without a full-service dive center. The Dive Center at Rio Mar Beach Golf Resort, Casino & Spa is just such a facility. The range of options is far too wide for me to cover in detail, so I’ll just hit some of the highlights for you:
Catamaran Sailing & Snorkeling Adventure Trip
Here’s your chance to enjoy spectacular views of El Yunque rainforest and the Puerto Rico coastline. A 45-minute sail takes you to one of the small deserted islands off the northeast shore. The water in-shore is shallow and you’ll spend a couple of hours beachcombing and swimming; snorkeling instruction is part of the package, if you need it. Lunch is served on board, buffet-style. After lunch you'll spend a couple more hours snorkeling on the reef where you'll meet the friendly and inquisitive creatures that make it their home.
Two-Tank Dive Trip
(For Certified Divers)This dive excursion to the Spanish Virgin Islands departs each morning from the marina for the coral reefs and the teeming marine life that lives there: yellowtail snapper, sergeant majors, parrotfish, Nassau grouper, spotted eagle rays, sea turtles, moray eels, spiny lobster, and much more. Depths at these locations range from about 10 to over 70 feet. A full, all-you-can-eat luncheon buffet is provided - along with unlimited refreshments, tanks and weights - aboard the resort’s U.S. Coast Guard certified 38-foot Delta dive excursion boat
Night Dive Trip - Saturday only
In addition to the daily dive excursions to the Spanish Virgin Islands, the Rio Mar dive staff also offer a night dive whenever there’s a full moon. Night Dives, so they say, add a new dimension to scuba diving. If you’ve never done it, you should give it a try.
