Rarely do I take lessons at one of these resort Golf Academies, but every now and then…. This was one of those occasions. Why did I do it? I have absolutely no idea, except that the same afternoon I was facing what I considered to be the ultimate challenge: The PGA National Champion Course, home of the Honda Classic. Now I’m no Ernie Els, and the idea of having to negotiate, clubs in hand, this famous course, including the dreaded “Bear Trap,” was making me more than a little nervous. Anyway, book a lesson I did; and very pleased with the result I was.
My instructor and long-time pro, Chris Reddicord, took me in hand and, well, I can’t say he tweaked my game; rather he reinvented it. After a frustrating 15 minutes on the range he dragged me off to the Academy and put me in front of a mirror. I was horrified at what I saw. Then, back to the range, and 90 minutes later I was doing much better, so much better, in fact, that the “Bear Trap” now held no fears for me. You can read an account of how I played it here. So, a question: Does your game need a boost? If so, you might well consider taking a lesson, or maybe several, with the PGA National Golf Academy at PGA National Resort & Spa located on the Haig range.
Tune up and Tee Up:
You can construct your own golf package with the Golf Pros at the PGA National Golf Academy, compose your own personalized package to exactly fit your needs. You can choose how many lessons, how long they last, the types of lessons to suit your game, what times you take them, how long you stay at the resort, and you’ll have the option to play any or all of the five championship courses, including the famed Champion and Palmer Courses.
Rooted in the philosophy that "We teach people to golf, not golf to people" the Academy endeavors to provide an individualized, results-oriented experience to golfers of all skill levels. The Academy instructors boast some of the finest resumes in the golf business today, but more importantly they each possess a proven ability to draw the best from every student who attends the Academy, and I can personally vouch for that. They spend quality time, one-on-one, with each student, developing not only an understanding of each student's personal goals and aspirations but of their unique physical and mental traits.
Half and Full day packages allow for a completely customized experience offering lessons combined with 9 or 18 holes, accompanied or alone, spa services, lunch, fitness regimes, and more.
