The Sea Pines Resort in Hilton Head, South Carolina is home to legendary Harbour Town Golf Links (home of the PGA TOUR’s The Heritage) designed by Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus, Heron Point by Pete Dye, and the Ocean Course. The resort’s best-in-class collection of golf courses, amenities, meeting facilities and accommodations makes Sea Pines one of the most sought-after leisure and group destinations in America. Set upon more than 5,000 acres of pristine oceanfront on the southernmost tip of Hilton Head Island, Sea Pines is, arguably, the home of golf in the United States. True, there are some that will disagree with that premise, but those that do must admit there are few resorts that can compare either in prestige or facilities at Sea Pines Resort.

The Sea Pines Resort is a vast retreat seemingly far away from the civilized world on the shores of the vast Calibogue Sound, yet only a stones throw from all the amenities, activities, and benefits of Hilton Head itself. Three world-class golf courses, including the famed Harbour Town Golf Links, long-time home to the PGA Tour's Heritage of Golf, make Sea Pines one of the most popular golf destinations in the US. But that’s not all. Add an internationally acclaimed golf academy, a world-class tennis center with 23 clay courts that’s ranked as one of the best in the U.S., five miles of pristine Atlantic beaches that offer everything from sea-kayaking to fishing to surfing. Then there’s the enchanted 605-acre Forest Reserve with more than 20 miles of bike and nature trails ideal for horseback riding, an equestrian center, 10 restaurants, two conference centers, and the world-famous Harbour Town Yacht Basin with it signature, candy-striped Harbour Town Lighthouse, whew…. Yes, you really do have a resort that's a step-or-two beyond the average.

But for our purposes it's the golf that will draw us to this one-of-a-kind, rather special resort. Three top-rated, championship courses, all world-renowned:

Harbour Town Golf Links is the jewel in the Sea Pines crown - Bradley S. Klein, architectural editor at Golfweek Magazine, says, "It's certainly one of the ten most important courses in terms of design, because Pete Dye built all sorts of great contour, shape, form and strategy into a dead level site that was really quite boring to begin with." Well said. So, there he is again: Pete Dye. The man is responsible for some of the most important tests of golf around the world. There's no doubt the man is a genius of vision and innovation. Harbour Town is a testament to that genius. Would you like to know more? Please view my photo gallery of Harbour Town Golf Links

Heron Point, Pete Dye's latest contribution at Sea Pines, has been named one of America's "Top 50 Courses for Women" by Golf Digest. "Anyone familiar with Pete Dye's amazing body of work knows his wife Alice is intimately involved in the design process," says Cary Corbitt, Director of Sports Division at Sea Pines Resort. "Forced carries, tee placements, approach angles and difficulty are all carefully evaluated to ensure golfers have fun and fair playing experiences." Thus the 7,103-yard layout meanders this way and that around what once was the old Sea Marsh course. Now an innovative creation of long and short holes with all the signature Pete Dye elements present: "sprawling waste bunkers, railroad ties, fairway mounding and risk/reward greens which repel poorly-executed approach shots." is woven amid . All Heron Point is a wild and wonderful place with a layout that that incorporate newly-created lagoons and centuries-old Live Oaks. It's a layout that takes full advantage of, yet never intrudes upon, this area of supreme natural beauty.

The Ocean Course: Built and designed in 1962 by George Cobb, the Ocean Course was the first golf course on Hilton Head Island. Redesigned by Mark McCumber in 1995 with an emphasis on the traditional and classic design principles, the course is a world of great natural beauty and has been awarded the "Beginner Friendly" Certification by the National Golf Course Owners Association. It also offers some of the most spectacular ocean views to be seen anywhere on Hilton Head Island.

The Golf Academy Of Hilton Head Island At The Sea Pines Resort: Finally, I would be remiss if I didn't offer you a glimpse of this world-famous golf facility.

So, with these three grand courses on site, and the Golf Academy Of Hilton Head Island At The Sea Pines Resort, it's no great wonder that Sea Pines Resort is one of North America's most popular golf venues.
