St. Regis Punta Mita Resort is the latest addition to the grand resorts on Mexico’s rapidly developing Riviera Nayarit, a section of the western coast that begins just 10 minutes north of the Puerto Vallarta International Airport, and stretches northward for more than 100 miles. Punta Mita is a located on peninsula only 45 minutes from the airport with the Banderas Bay to the south and the Pacific Ocean to the north and west. The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort is set in a gated community on the very tip of the peninsula, bounded by a two championship, Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses and the ocean.
The St. Regis Punta Mita is not your typical resort. There are no high-rise buildings here. The 120 guest rooms and suites are housed in 32 casitas more indigenous to Provence than Mexico. The atmosphere is one of casual elegance. Each guest room features deluxe Remede bath amenities, including an outdoor shower that’s too much fun to ignore, a giant flat screen television with cable, high speed internet and 24-hour, in-room private dining and, of course, the St. Regis Signature Butler Service. The resort is a tiny village with luxury accommodations, fine dining, outdoor activities and gorgeous beaches set on a small slice of paradise where "getting away from it all" means exactly that. St. Regis Punta Mita Resort is a seductive, exclusive getaway located in one of Mexico’s most beautiful regions.

The Restaurants:
I spent several days in March at the St. Regis Punta Mita Resort. It was all I imagined it would be, and more. I was there primarily for the golf courses, which are amazing. Rarely, though, am I impressed, these days, by any resort, even the grand ones. This one, however, was something of a surprise. Absent was the usual hustle and bustle that usually goes with such a facility, and that in itself was refreshing. No, it wasn’t a lack a visitors, just the opposite in fact. The layout of the resort is such that guests are spread out across the more than 22 acres upon which the resort is built. The pools are also constructed in such a way as to “spread the load,” so to speak, and thus are rarely crowded. The beaches stretch, seemingly, for miles and again are rarely crowded. Only the restaurants and Beach Club bar bustle with activity, and then not to excess. The guest rooms, each with private, furnished terrace, are secluded retreats where quiet luxury is the watchword.
As to the golf, well… I never met a Jack Nicklaus golf course I didn’t like, and these two are no exceptions. True, the Bahia course is very new and a little rough in places, but time I’m sure will turn it into a classic and, young as it is, it still offers a challenging and enjoyable round of golf. The Pacifico Course, on the other hand, is a Jack Nicklaus masterpiece. The 3rd hole (Tale of the Whale), the only true island green in the world, offers an amazing golf experience all its own; the rest of the course is a mature, meandering layout that will test the best and entertain the novice. It doesn’t come any better than this.
