The Links at Cottonwoods Golf Course, Tunica Mississippi

I played the Links at Cottonwoods Golf Course in late March. It was a golf experience like none I can recall. The weather was terrible. The Mississippi river was cresting around 30 feet, the rain came down sporadically, often quite heavy, which, for an Englishman, is never a problem; it just changes the way we play. Even so, I have to tell you, I was decidedly uncomfortable. But here’s the thing: even in bad weather the course is a credit to the Harrah's Casino, Tunica, which owns and operates it. The fairways were in excellent condition, the greens were the best we played in the Tunica area, and the layout is a credit to its erstwhile designer, Hale Irwin.

This 18-hole Hale Irwin championship golf course has something a Scottish links feel about it. Gentle rolling fairways, immaculately manicured greens that are easy to read and roll true, and three lakes that add a surreal beauty to what easily might have been quite a boring course. The Links at Cottonwoods plays 7,000 yards off the back tees for a Par of 72, From those same back tees, the Links presents quite a challenge, even for players of handicap 10 and below; for the novice, however, the forward tees offer a chance to score well, even in inclement weather.

Course Features:

  • Course Rating: 72.3; Slope 119
  • Water is in play on 9 of the 18 holes
  • Zoyzer Fairways, bent grass greens
  • More than 80 bunkers

Awards and Achievements:

  • Voted Best Golf by the 2007 Casino Player Awards!
  • Voted One of the Top 40 Casino Golf Courses by Golf Digest!
  • The Best Place to Play in Tunica – Casino Player Magazine

Facilities & Amenities:

The Links at Cottonwoods offers all the amenities you'd expect at a championship golf course. I can attest to the beauty of the club house having consumed a goodly number bloody Mary's therein – it was the weather, you know. It has a rather “homey” appeal, and is the perfect place to relax after an afternoon of golf. And if you're hungry, you can grab a bite to eat in the club house restaurant – you’ve just gotta try the home-made gumbo. It’s out of this world. The pro shop is on a par with its local peers, offering the latest golf accessories, clothing and equipment.

Green Fees:

The cost of a round of golf, no matter where you play, seems to be heading into the stratosphere, and especially so on the championship layouts. No so at the Links at Cottonwoods. Even in the high season, the rates are reasonable, and they include cart, range balls and taxes.
