Black Bear Golf Course, Myrtle Beach is, so they claim, “aclassic parkland course completely engulfed by nature.” And so it is. They also claim the course, with some 23 beautiful, lakes is intimidating. But please don’t be fooled. The Bear’s fairways are wide and offer generous landing areas; the greens are large and not always as fast as they look; the lakes… well, yes, you might loose a ball or two, maybe more, but the overall forgiving nature of the Black Bear Golf Course means an enjoyable day out, even if you do make a bogey, or two.
Tom Jackson designed this beautiful par 72 course. It’s a parkland course where the fairways wend their ways between stands of hardwoods and old-growth pines and shimmering lakes. Speaking of lakes, the dominant feature of Black Bear is, indeed, its 23 lakes, which means that water is in play on many of the holes. Black Bear offers a thoroughly enjoyable day out. When the sun shines, and the gentle breezes blow, it’s a joy just to be out there. Nature in all its glory, and laid out, so it seems, just for us to enjoy. Lovely!
