Review of the Founders Club at Pawleys Island
The Founders Club at Pawleys Island - A Review

By Blair Howard, About.com

Founders Club at Pawley's Island is not the newest addition to the Grand Strand, having once been known as the Sea Gull Golf Club, but it is the latest addition to the Classic Golf conglomerate. In 2006 the old Gene Hamm designed course underwent extensive renovations and redesign, finally opening for play as the Founders Club at Pawleys Island on Feb. 1, 2008. Thomas Walker, formerly the lead architect of Gary Player Design, engineered the estimated $7 million redesign of the former Sea Gull Golf Club. The result is a new, high-end golf course almost without peer.

Course Specifications:

Designed and built by Thomas Walker, the 18-hole, par 72 course at the Founders Club plays a sometimes tough 7,007 yards off the Champion tees for a course rating of 74 with a slope of 134. With five sets of tees to make play enjoyable to players of all levels of skill, however, low scores are achievable, especially from the much shorter Gold tees where the course plays just 5,506 yards, though still maintaining its par of 72.

Green Fees: $90 to $160 (approx., depending upon the time of year and day of the week)

Special & Packages:

Where to Stay:

Concerning the special package listed above, Myrtlewood has its own on-site accommodations. There are, howver, literally dozens of hotels and motels in the Myrtle Beach area. So no matter what your budget or choice in lodging, you can easily put the Founders Club into your golf vacation plans. If you’re not thrilled with the idea of staying at a golf club (Myrtlewood), my own recommendation is that you try The Kingston Plantation Golf Resort. It's not too far from the Founders Club and you can include it as part of one of their specials.

But why not check out all the options and Compare Local Hotel/Resort Prices

How to Get There:

By Air: The closest regional airport is the Myrtle Beach Airport. The airport is served by Delta, Continental, US Air, SpiritAir, and several others.

Look for the best airline and car rental deals with these two aggregators, which provide travelers with an up-to-date search tool to compare prices on airfares and car rentals of all ratings:

Only in Myrtle Beach will you find such a diversity of golf courses and resorts to choose from. The Founders Club is one I can personally recommend.
