Myrtle Beach’s Glens Golf Courses
The Glens Golf Courses Myrtle Beach – Myrtle Beach’s Glens Golf Courses

By Blair Howard, About.com

The Glens Golf Courses: Set among the great natural beauty of the Myrtle Grand Strand, are four of the area’s most loved golf courses. The Glens golf courses, located in the heart of South Carolina, offer a unique opportunity to play courses similar in design to the great links courses of Scotland, England and Ireland, right there in Myrtle Beach.

Four championship golf courses: a world of great natural beauty, of changing elevations, gigantic 100 year old pines, colorful dogwoods, glistening hollies, graceful live oaks, winding streams and brooks (burns) and the lovely Firth of Clyde... all crowned with a 19th Century British-styled clubhouse, have created a vision of the old-world links of the Scottish, English and Irish coastal regions. Each is as distinctive as it is beautiful.

Heather Glen:

Located in Little River, South Carolina, on a lovely, 400-acre historic site, is the flagship of The Glens Golf Group: Heather Glen. Designed by Willard Byrd and Clyde Johnston, the course opened in 1987. Discover for yourself why Golf Digest chose Heather Glen as l987's #1 new public course, and names it again and again as among the country's best. The course's 27 holes are even lovelier in maturity, its setting is truly spectacular, and the 19th Century clubhouse echoes its Scottish tradition.

Glen Dornoch:

Glen Dornoch Waterway Golf Links, often referred to as “Myrtle Beach’s Most Talked About Course,” was designed by Clyde Johnston as a tribute to legendary course architect Donald Ross. Glen Dornoch is a traditional course in a spectacular setting of centuries old live oaks, marsh and Intracoastal Waterway views. Each hole flows with the natural terrain of lakes, live oaks and spectacular marsh and river views. Here each hole seems to have been crafted by nature rather than by man, and the three finishing holes are among the world's best.

Possum Trot:

Known as the “Friendliest Course On The Beach,” Possum Trot has an honored place in the history of Myrtle Beach golf. One of the first ten championship courses built along Myrtle Beach’s Grand Strand, which now has more than 100 golf courses, Possum Trot has stood the test of time. The course’s Old English design features spacious fairways, challenging par 5’s, as well as flawlessly manicured greens and spectacular flower displays.

Shaftesbury Glen:

Inspired by Winged Foot and Augusta National, Clyde Johnston has captured the very essence of golf. He has delicately crafted a flowing dignified, traditional layout of wide fairways and elevated Bent greens, where you can immerse yourself in every facet of the game. Golf at Shaftesbury Glen is played as it was meant to be. Inspired by world-famous courses like Winged Foot and Augusta National, architect Clyde Johnston has designed a traditional British Isles course on the banks of South Carolina’s beautiful Waccamaw River.
