To spend a day at the Heritage Club on the Waccamaw Golf Trail near Myrtle Beach is to take a trip back in time. Built on two of South Carolina's historic plantations along the scenic Waccamaw River, it’s been a favorite with Waccamaw Golf Trail and Grand Strand golfers ever since its inception in 1986. The layout, a Dan Maples design, meanders across more than 600 acres of giant magnolias, 300-year-old oaks, fresh water lakes and marshes all of which comprise a golf course that rivals any in the Southeast.
Heritage Plantation is a tribute to the Grand Strand’s one-time rice culture. Built on the site of True Blue and Midway Plantations, and located in Pawleys Island, SC., Heritage Plantation reflects a history of gracious living and the antebellum Old South.
The par 71 golf course serves as the focal point for Heritage Plantation. The centuries-old trees, blossoming flowers, and rice fields endow each hole with a different and intriguing look. A magnificent avenue of oaks – much photographed - leads to the 12,000 sq. ft. southern colonial clubhouse overlooking the Waccamaw River.
Recently honored by Golf Digest as #46 in the “Top 100 Public Courses in America- 2007-2008” and rated 4.5 STARS in “Places to Play,” the Heritage Club course plays a tough 7,040 yards from the longest tees for a par of 71. The slope is142 and the course rating is 74.1. It’s a “must play” if you’re considering a golf outing in the Myrtle Beach area.
