The River Club, a member of the Waccamaw Golf Trail in Myrtle Beach, is yet another 4 1/2 Star rated course on the Grand Strand. Located in the Southend of the Beach, the River Club is also the only course in the Pawleys Island area to feature bent grass greens.
If you like a course where water is the principle challenge, the River Club is for you. As you might be able to tell from its name, the course is a layout where water is in play on almost every hole. Now consider that there are more than 100 bunkers spread across the course and you begin to see that it presents quite an unusual challenge, unique in fact. A Tom Jackson Signature Course, River Club is one of those layouts that has proven to be one of the most challenging courses in the Myrtle Beach area
If you’re a long hitter, you’ll be gratified by the often generous landing areas. The approaches, however, demand at least a degree of accuracy. If not, the ever-present water, (not to mention the bunkers) lies in wait for any wayward shot. Probably the most memorable hole on the course is the dramatic par-5, 18th. Those in the know claim the 18th is “one of the finest finishing holes on the Grand Strand.” The temptation is to try to carry the water, not once but twice. If you pull it off, you’ll set yourself up with a chance for a eagle; a bit optimistic, perhaps, but a chance nevertheless.
So, if the Waccamaw Golf Trail is on your agenda, River Club is definitely one course you should add to your list.
