Willbrook Plantation Golf Club, a member of the Waccamaw Golf Trail, is laid out on a site of what once was two Carolina plantations. It’s a course that noted architect Dan Maples has often called "One of my best!"
Located at the south end of the Grand Strand, Willbrook Plantation, meanders across the landscape, through a centuries-old oak forest, winds through the natural wetlands and waterways and is a place where nature is virtually undisturbed. In fact, it was recently featured on the award-winning television show "Nature Scene" for its peaceful coexistence of golfers and nature. It is one of South Carolina’s most memorable layouts.
Willbrook plays 7,155 yards with a slope of 133 from the championship tees (there are five sets of tees) and 4,956 from the front. Not as difficult as some, but beautifully laid out, the course is a pleaser to play: generous landing areas and greens. The par 3s are, for the most-part, short. The short par-3 sixth is the signature hole – it features the now almost mandatory island green that’s larger than most that slopes from back-to-front.
Willbrook's collection of par 5s provide both fun and a challenge; all are reachable in two provided you can draw and fade the ball. The par-5 15th is one of Willbrook’s best, a challenge where you must negotiate wetlands, waterways and forest.
Willbrook is a test of golf course management; it’s a shot-maker’s course it a setting of great natural beauty and a favorite of women golfers. In fact, Willbrook Plantation earned the #25 spot among Golf for Women's "America's 50 Best Courses" and 4 1/2-stars in Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play in America."
