Since Shell Point Golf Course in Fort Myers first opened for play in December 2002, this rather special Gordon Lewis design has been receiving accolades from players and golf course aficionados alike. The amazing par-three seventh was featured on NBC-2's "Dream 18" TV program which showcased the “best 18 holes in Southwest Florida.” But Shell Point Golf Course is more than a single par three going for it; all of the rest of the holes are just as good.
The Shell Point Golf Course was designed by Gordon Lewis, a well-know architect and designer of some of the finest golf courses in Florida. At Shell Point, Lewis has made full use of the local terrain sculpting it to form challenging fairways, winding water hazards, and some really interesting approaches. The greens are gently undulating, not really difficult to read, and they do roll true. Lewis has provided five tees for every hole, thus offering a real opportunity for players of all levels of skill to score well, provided they choose the correct tee box to suit their game.
The 18-hole Shell Point golf course in Fort Myers, Florida plays some 6,880 yards ofrom the tips for a par of 72, a course rating of 73.4 with a slope rating of 133 on Bermuda grass. This, along with five sets of tee boxes on every hole, provides a challenge for every golfer, from the beginner to the longest hitter. Designed by Gordon G. Lewis, the Shell Point golf course opened for play in 2000.
