The Seaworld Explorer is a cruising, underwater observatory and guided marine tour. The term semi-submarine is a bit misleading. It is, in fact, a large surface vessel complete with observation deck, air-conditioning and shade canopy. What makes it unique is its undersea observatory just below the main deck.
A cruise aboard the Explorer takes you out from the dock on Bay Street, through Nassau’s docks, and on to the Sea Gardens Marine Park where you’ll get a close-up look at the undersea preserve. In the underwater observation lounge, just five feet below the surface, you’ll have your own window on the world beneath the waves.
The cruise comes with a running commentary and a fish identification chart. Along the way you’re likely to see all sorts of marine life: sharks, rays, turtles and barracuda, along with a variety of brightly painted reef fish. The tour lasts about 1 ½ hours and costs $37 for adults and $19 for children, and it’s well worth it. The Seaworld Explorer[/i[ departs several times daily. Call for times. Phone 356-2548.
