Guide Review - 535s Sunglasses

535s Sunglasses: "The proof is in the putting," so says Barry Ozer, the founder and CEO of 535s, maker of the new 535s Sport Optics eye-wear for golf. And, having tried them out for myself, I can tell you it’s hard to argue with him. The sun was out and there was not a cloud in the sky so it was one of those days when a pair of sunglasses in more a necessity than a statement and I had left mine at home, by mistake, of course. So I borrowed a pair of 535s Sunglasses from the local golf pro who assured me I would love them: “They have special lenses that filter out red and blue light but let green light in,” he said.

“And that means…?”

“Well,” he said. “They increase contrast, which means you’ll find it easier to see objects both near and far, the flag stick in particular. You'll also see more details on the greens and your depth perception will be improved. The bottom line is: you'll see much more clearly; you'll see better.”

He was right. It was easier to pick out significant points of reference around the course. Not only that, because there was no need for me to squint, my eyes felt comfortable and relaxed. And that’s something I’d not experienced in quite a long time.

535s lenses are made of an impact-resistant polycarbonate. Glare is reduced by an anti-reflective coating on the back of the lenses which also provides UV protection. They have also been "permitted/allowable under the rules of golf" by the USGA.

535s are distributed by Elite Eye-wear and are available in several styles at most golf and sports equipment stores, golf pro shops and sunglasses stores. You can also find them online, often at significant discounts.
