I first met Ti Ming and Tem Po some four years ago when on a trip to play the golf courses of the Audubon Golf Trail in Louisiana. These two little guys are the product of the fertile imagination of Paul Buckley, an executive with the Hilton Hotels corporation. Paul was one of the hosts of that trip and I got to spend some time with him, time during which he explained the story behind golf gods; you can read it here.
We have all, at one time or another, cursed or praised the gods of golf for one reason or another. Ti Ming and Tempo, are two “strange, fickle and capricious deities…” guardians of the game, helpful if you believe, aloof and distant if you don’t.
Timing and tempo are without doubt the key to better golf, and Finding Ti Ming and Tem Po, The Legend of the Golf Gods is an amusing and appealing way for golfers young and old to find, or recover their game. Primarily a book for children, but appealing to golfers of all ages, it’s the story of three young people, Jack, Anna and Tommy.
Jack, a 12-year old school boy finds the two little figurines in an old golf bag. They take him in hand and… well, it’s better you read about it for yourself than for me to render a shortened version of his story here. Suffice it to say he loses them, and his game, but finds them both, gods and game, again later in life.
Anna is 15; she has no desire to play golf at all, until she finds the two little guys in a ditch; she goes on to play on the LPGA tour, but she too loses Ti Ming and Tem Po.Tommy is another story altogether. He has already lost his game and is leading a not quite so honest life when he is introduced to the inimitable pair. Needless to say, he puts his life back in order, recovers his game, goes to Q School and….
I enjoyed reading Finding Ti Ming and Tem Po, The Legend of the Golf Gods. I think you will too. You can find it on Amazon.com, in both hard cover and paperback editions.
