The Nicklaus Tournament Course at La Quinta Resort, CA is, as some would have it, "one of Nicklaus' best." Me, well... I'm not so sure; I've seen and played some amazing Jack Nicklaus layouts. This course is, without doubt, one that ranks high among its peers, a remarkable test of golf and, for sure, an enjoyable round of golf, provided you play within your game, which means that you play of the correct tees and not to suit your ego. It's punishingly long off the championship tees - 7,200 yards - the fairways are tight and tee shots that stray will be severely penalized. Many of the greens are elevated and, true to typical Jack Nicklaus design philosophy... contoured and tough to read, and they are fast. The huge, undulating double-green that serves holes 9 & 18 is well known and much talked about. Most of the greens are guarded by deep bunkers. Score well here and you can chalk one up to brag about.
