Nestled among the peaks and valleys in the mountains of Western North Carolina, close to Cashiers, the High Hampton Inn & Country Club offers one of those unique getaways that one often dreams about but rarely every finds. As far as North Carolina Golf goes, the course at High Hampton has something to offer golfer of every level of skill. The course is a short one, just over 6,000 yards, designed by George Cobb. The fairways are forgiving, yet one always has the impression of playing a championship course, which this one is not. Unique is the almost total lack of bunkers - I found only one, and that on the practice green. There is some water, here and there, mostly at the 8th and 17th, but it rarely gives any problems. Yes, you do have to keep the ball going straight - the fairways are bounded by heavy stands of trees - but the overall beauty of the course makes High Hampton a golf destination like no other.
