It could be said that the Sea Pines Resort, set upon more than 5,000 acres of pristine oceanfront on the southernmost tip of Hilton Head Island, is the home of golf in the United States. True, some will argue that premise, but those that do must admit there are few resorts that can compare either in prestige or facilities at Sea Pines Resort.
The Sea Pines Resort is a vast retreat seemingly far away from the civilized world on the shores of the vast Calibogue Sound, yet only a stones throw from all the amenities, activities, and benefits of Hilton Head itself. Three world-class golf courses, including the famed Harbour Town Golf Links, long-time home to the PGA Tour’s Heritage of Golf, make Sea Pines one of the most popular golf destinations in the US. Add an internationally acclaimed golf academy, a world-class tennis center, five miles of pristine beaches, 20 miles of bike and nature trails, a 600-acre Forest Preserve, an equestrian center, 10 restaurants, two conference centers, and the world-famous Harbour Town Yacht Basin with it signature, candy-striped Harbour Town Lighthouse, and you really do have a resort that’s a step-or-two beyond the average.
But for our purposes it’s the golf that will draw us to this one-of-a-kind, rather special resort. Three top-rated, championship courses, all world-renowned:
Harbour Town Golf Links – Bradley S. Klein, architectural editor at Golfweek Magazine, says, “It’s certainly one of the ten most important courses in terms of design, because Pete Dye built all sorts of great contour, shape, form and strategy into a dead level site that was really quite boring to begin with.” There he is again: Pete Dye. The man is responsible for some of the most important tests of golf around the world. There’s no doubt the man is a genius of vision and innovation. Harbour Town is a testament to that genius.
The Pete Dye Golf Course – once known as Sea Marsh – is Mr. Dye’s latest effort at Sea Pines. Designed to be a “Beginner Friendly” course, it has taken a huge step forward from the days when it was known as Sea Marsh. The Pete Dye Course is a wild and wonderful place with a layout that takes full advantage of, yet never intrudes upon, the supreme natural beauty of what has become designated a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.
The Ocean Course: Built and designed in 1962 by George Cobb, the Ocean Course was the first golf course on Hilton Head Island. Redesigned by Mark McCumber in 1995 with an emphasis on the traditional and classic design principles, the course is a world of great natural beauty and has been awarded the “Beginner Friendly” Certification by the National Golf Course Owners Association. It also offers some of the most spectacular ocean views to be seen anywhere on Hilton Head Island.
The Golf Academy Of Hilton Head Island At The Sea Pines Resort: Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t offer you a glimpse of this world-famous golf facility.
So, with these three grand courses on site, and Golf Academy Of Hilton Head Island At The Sea Pines Resort, it’s no great wonder that Sea Pines Resort is one of North America's most popular golf venues.
