The Hyatt Hill Country Golf Courses – there are three none-hole layouts all designed by the inimitable Arthur Hills. The three courses are set on more than 200 acres of wide-ranging terrain with tracts of woodland, rolling meadows, steep hillsides, wooded ravines and tree-shaded plateaus, along with a series of lakes and ponds that add, not only excitement to the round, but a tranquil beauty I found to be unique and exquisitely relaxing. The Hyatt Hill Country Golf Courses have been ranked the #1 Texas golf destination and #17 worldwide by Condé Nast Traveler and, I think, rightly so. Just take a quick look at what’s on offer:
Facilities and Services:
- 27 holes of championship golf – in three Par 36 courses. Each course offers four tee placements, one for every level of golfer. GPS-equipped golf carts - create an "electronic caddy", complete with illustrations of each hole in full color, accurate yardage to the pin, key hazards, playing tips, and even score keeping. Each golf cart is also equipped with yardage books, a scorecard and pencil, ball mark repair tools, tees, ball markers, a beverage cooler, a club and ball washer, and towels for your comfort. The first golf course in South Texas to offer the Global Positioning Satellite System developed by UpLink; the system allows you to communicate with the pro shop on everything from weather conditions to ordering a meal from the clubhouse.
- Extensive pro shop – offering an extensive line of golf wear, clubs, accessories, club and shoe rental as well as on-staff pros to assist you in planning your outing.
- Practice facility – including putting green, instruction area and balls for use during practice.
- Complete clubhouse facilities – with full-service restaurant, private dining room and men’s and women’s locker facilities and showers.
The Verdict: I spent the better part of a day touring and photographing the three layouts – couldn’t play: shoulder injury – and I have to tell you that The Hyatt Hill Country Golf Courses are high on “must-play” list. Because I didn’t play, I probably saw more of the golf courses than the average golfer and I was ipressed, to say the least. I also talked to the rest of my group, who did play, and the verdict was unanimous: a great day out and a real challenge of golf.
Lessons and Clinics:
The variety of programs available is suitable for all playing levels. Instruction is available with prices starting at $75 per hour.
